Nine Encounters with Mā

For me, the Goddess has never been something to simply learn about. She is something we live.

I have walked towards Mā, sat at her feet, cried with her, laughed with her, rested with her and returned to her again and again. I have experienced her in moments of extraordinary grace and in times when life has asked everything of me. I have seen her in temples and mountains, beside Gaṅgā, in the devotion of thousands of people, and I have experienced her within my own heart, in those quiet moments when there was simply Mā and me.

Through it all, she has taught me something about persistence, joy, devotion, rest, courage, transformation, love and power.

This Navarātri, I want to take you with me into some of the sacred places in India where I have encountered Mā. Not simply to tell stories of the Goddess, but to share something of these places, my own encounters with her, and what she has taught me through returning to her again and again.

Each day we will spend 30 minutes together with a sacred place, a story of Mā, something of my own experience, a teaching and a simple devotional practice.

This isn’t a study of the Navadurgās. It is something much more personal. Nine places. Nine stories. Nine practices. Nine faces of Mā.

And ultimately, one Mother.
